Students digging into Paleontology theme

The elementary school is pursuing its foray into Paleontology, following Thadra Stanton’s visit last Thursday. Thadra (a.k.a. Emma’s mom) led a classroom activity introducing the students to the use of an coordinate grid. There will be digging in the backyard later on in the theme. Following their field trip to the Natural Bridge Battlefield State Park spring system, the middle school students have been exploring mapping tools on the Internet to print satellite and topographic maps of the site, and use them to determine latitude, longitude and distances. They too will be using grids in the future, not to map but to sample the fauna on site.

The February 28 field trip to Natural Bridge concerns the whole school. Students will witness a re-enactment of the historic Civil War battle that took place there in anticipation of our next theme on Florida History.
