Florida history theme continues with visit to San Luis

Our Florida History theme enters its 4th week. At the elementary school, students have finished exploring different Native American Cultures from Florida and are starting to explore the Five Flags of Florida. They will be learning about first European contacts, Ponce de Leon, Hernando de Soto, Fort Caroline, and the founding of St. Augustine in 1564. They will then learn about the British period and Fort Mose, then the 2nd Spanish period and the Seminoles. Last week, both elementary and middle school students went on separate field trips to Mission San Luis. On April 29, they will go all together to the Panhandle Pioneer Settlement in Blountstown.

After April 29th would be a good time to take your child(ren) to the Tallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science (formally known as the Junior Museum) to visit or revisit its Big Bend Farmstead and other historical buildings.
